As part of a project exploring the future of democracy and civic participation, our team examined several key questions: What is democracy? How do citizens engage with it? What does civic engagement look like? And what kind of dialectic can these questions create?
Using a 2x2 matrix—analyzing trust in government and social cohesion as the critical uncertainties—we envisioned four potential futures. To bring these speculative worlds to life, we created Civic Action Figures: four dolls that embody each scenario, allowing viewers to engage with these imagined futures and consider how to drive change within them.
Civic Action Figures was created as part of the Strategic Foresight and Innovation program at OCAD University.
