John Elvidge

City Clerk, City of Toronto

John Elvidge is the City Clerk for the City of Toronto.  He is responsible for many aspects of the machinery of government at the City.  He serves as chief electoral officer for the fourth largest municipal election in North America.  He manages the legislative and decision-making processes of City Council, its committees and select boards and tribunals. He also serves as the City's chief access and privacy officer. Other program responsibilities include public appointments, administrative supports to the Mayor and Members of Council, protocol and international relations.

 

His 35-year career in the Toronto Public Service includes posts in cultural affairs, intergovernmental relations, governance, ethics & integrity and strategic planning.  


He serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference and the Strategic Advisory Council of the Information and Privacy Commissioner Of Ontario.  A master swimming official since 2009, he contributes his time as a volunteer to Special Olympics Ontario.
