Rachel Pulfer
President, Journalists for Human Rights
Rachel Pulfer is the President of Journalists for Human Rights. The impact of JHR programs has been recognized by the 2025 RTDNA Canada President's Award, that association's highest honour; the 2022 Michener Baxter Award for Public Service Journalism, the 2018 Bill Hutton Award for Excellence in Journalism from RTDNA Canada, the 2018 Ontario Heritage Award and 2013 Canadian Ethnic Media Award for Innovation for the Indigenous Reporters Program, and a 2013 Governor-General’s Award for Services to the People of Ghana. Pulfer was the 2023-2024 Canadian Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, holds an honorary doctorate from Loyalist College in Belleville, and was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her global work with journalism and human rights.Â
Prior to running JHR, Pulfer was the 2009-2010 Webster-McConnell William Southam Journalism Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto. She continues to work as a journalist and pundit, appearing on CBC, CTV and Global TV and radio shows as well as writing op-eds and features for the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star and many other publications. She is a member of the Banff Forum.
